Letter to Ondo State Progressives, Lasisi Ogunmola Mohammed Letter to Ondo State Progressives
Dear Brothers, Sisters, and Respected
Leaders,
      The recent vulgar,
depressing, and un-presidential altercation by President Olusegun Obasanjo in Akure,
in support of a clearly non-performing, un-progressive, and dis-respectful current
tenant of Alagbaka governor’s house is a call for action before we regret for the
rest of our lives the calamity that is about to befall our dear state.
      I would be wasting
time and energy rehashing the pain our people have been going through under Agagu’s
mis-administration for the past four years.
      My most recent
visit home opened my eyes to the unbelievable suffering our people have been going
through. I could not believe how the lives of our people have turned for the worse.
Lives have become extremely harsh for our people. This is totally unacceptable.
We must rescue this unfortunate situation---FAST!
      The best way forward
is to agree on serious united front to rescue our state from this current misrule.
Anybody that truly loves Ondo State , and wants the state to positively move forward
will detest the apparent dangerous division of the progressive forces in our state.
What we have in common are far more important than what separates us.
      It is very clear
to our people at home and in the diaspora that any of you will do a better job than
the current occupier of governor’s house. But at best, only one of you can be elected,
and that can only happen if we can forestall the impending rigging plan of PDP in
the coming (April) elections. This can best be achieved by uniting behind the most
viable candidate amongst you.
      We must show that
the people of Ondo State are different from those who have allowed the “tin god”,
the foul mouth “emperor”, eni to ri nkan he, to fe ku tori e, to gbagbe pe owo enikan
lo ti sonu. To tun gbagbe pe aiye labaa, aiye lao si fi sile si, to make parts of
Yoruba Nation a garrison of lawlessness, gangsters and corruption.
      No man who is
trying to make himself of “god” should be allowed to dictate whom we should vote
for in Ondo state.
      The best way those
who have misruled our dear state and assigned all the goodness of life to themselves
to the detriment of our people, can be sent packing is for us to unite.
      If we refuse to
unite behind the most viable candidate amongst all of you, history, the entire people
of Ondo State in particular, as well as Yoruba Nation in general will not forgive
us for selfishly throwing away the golden opportunity for us in Ondo State to start
the revolution to dislodge this dictator from Abuja, so that our people can once
again have the opportunity to practice Afenifere ideology in our land again.
      We must reduce
the possibility of “RIGGING” this April election. If we do not want Agagu and his
cohorts to be imposed on us again, if we want Ondo State to move forward to the
Promised Land of Hope, Progress, and Prosperity, and if we want the next generation
to look back and thank us, just like we are thanking Generation Builders - Papas
Awo, Ajasin, and company generation, we must not allow our legitimate ambitions
to sentence our people to more years of slavery.
      We therefore must
allow the most viable amongst our progressive candidates to be elected the next
first among equal (Governor) of Ondo State come May 2007.
      My fellow compatriots,
many of us here in the diaspora are respectfully requesting, with all humility,
and fear of God that we all allow Dr. Olusegun Mimiko to be elected as the first
amongst equals (Governor) of the Sunshine State of Ondo to usher in a Government
of State Unity.
      I thank you from
the bottom of my heart, and wish all of you brothers, sisters, and elders God’s
blessings.
